Before 1958 AD, Ganga Shrestha, a photographer from Tansen made trips to Pokhara to click photographs of the landscapes and the way of living of the people here. Old photos taken by him from the period 1933 AD to 1958 AD can still be found at most homes in Pokhara.
It was in the year 1960 AD that Mr. Khem Narayan Shrestha opened a shop at Tersapatti, naming it “Narayan Photographer”. Thus, paving way for photography business in Pokhara. By the year 1978 AD, seven more studios were opened and by 1983 AD five more, Photo Zenith being one of them.
Emergence of Photo Zenith
“Photo Zenith” was established in the year 1982 AD at “Sangu Mukh Chowk” in Pokhara. Before its establishment all the studios were limited to taking photos to fulfill government formalities or special occasions. Photo Zenith changed the way this business was done. It viewed photography as a form of art and put efforts to increase its commercial viability. It brought about a total change in the way photographers of Pokhara perceived their profession. They realized that the beauty of Pokhara could be sold nationally and internationally through their lens. This established a new dimension in photography as a profession and became a source of motivation to choose photography as a fully fledged career. Furthermore, introduction of color photos in 1984 AD, added new aspirations in this arena of business.
